Vanessa Johnson, MD
Dr. Vanessa Johnson completed her medical training at Cornell University Medical College in 1995 and received her Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University School of Public Health the following year. She did her general medicine residency at Rhode Island Hospital/ Brown Medical School and remained there for a hematology/ oncology fellowship. She is board certified in several specialties, including internal medicine, hematology, oncology, and hospice and palliative medicine.
Dr. Johnson is highly regarded in the medical community. She served as a staff physician at Oncology & Hematology Associates, P.C. for ten years, and worked at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Waterford, Connecticut. In 2016, she joined Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology Associates where she serves as a medical oncologist/ hematologist, as well as a specialist in palliative care. She is affiliated with Backus Hospital and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Johnson has been published in the oncology field, especially on the topic of Palliative Care. She has lectured on the topic of end-of-life care.
At ECHO, Dr. Johnson spearheads efforts in palliative care, which is focused around optimizing quality of life and mitigating suffering for people with serious, complex illnesses. She works with a multidisciplinary team to compassionately work with patients and their families facing these difficult issues.
Dr. Johnson serves as local Associate Medical Director of Hospice through Hartford Healthcare. And, is board certified as a Hospice Medical Director.
